On the evening of October 22, 2018, Professor Michael Rosbash, 2017 Nobel Prize winner in Physiology or Medicine and academician of the United States National Academy of Science, delivered a lecture at the packed Xuguang Hall at Chashan Campus of Wenzhou Medical University (WMU) and was awarded honorary professor of WMU.

Prof. Michael Rosbash, a reputed American geneticist and biologist, is a professor at Brandeis University and investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He has been devoted to the research into drosophila’s circadian rhythm, cycle gene and DNA change for years. He was awarded the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. In addition, Prof. Michael Rosbash and his group have made other fruitful discoveries in biology and genetics.

In the evening, Prof. Michael Rosbash gave an academic presentation to WMU’s faculty and students on biological rhythm and future of drosophila, telling interesting stories about his group’s research into chronobiology. The discoveries of the research explain molecular mechanisms controlling the biological clocks of living organisms, for which he received the Nobel Prize in 2017.

The lecture also had an interaction session with an enthusiastic response from the audience. “I feel the students’ passion and enthusiasm for study. They are very active in thinking.” Said Prof. Michael Rosbash, who showed interest in further communication and cooperation with WMU, especially in medical education, scientific research and medical service etc.
