Nan Cunhui, member of the 12th CPPCC (Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference) standing committee, and President of the Wenzhou-headquartered CHINT Group, revealed when attending the CPPCC meeting in Beijing on March 3, 2014 that Astronergy Solar, a subsidiary of the CHINT Group, has acquired Conergy’s Frankfurt module factory in Germany so as to globally expand its PV module manufacturing.

On February 20, the city council of Frankfurt (Oder), Brandenburg, Germany, formally approved to rename a road close to CHINT’s newly-acquired German PV module factory as CHINT AVENUE, which is likely to be the first road named after a Chinese company in Germany.

At 10 pm on February 18, 2014, Nan Cunhui, President of the CHINT Group, received a special gift at the opening of CHINT’s new solar panel factory in Germany – a golden-edged solar module with the serial number 7777777, the first module produced after CHINT bought Conergy’s Frankfurt module unit.

Headquartered in Frankfurt Oder in the eastern Germany, Conergy was once one of the biggest solar companies in Europe. In the year of 2013, Conergy filed for bankruptcy due to the changes of the economic situation in Europe as well as its business operations.

“At that time, Europe was imposing anti-dumping and anti-subsidy measures and fixing a minimum price against Chinese solar panel imports. Considering that Conergy’s Frankfurt module factory at a reasonable price had advanced technologies and equipment with excellent plants, employees and stable customers, and that it was a good way for us to reach new high-end customers, we began to join in the acquisition negotiation and finally the transaction was completed at the beginning of 2014.” Told by Lu Chuan, Vice President of Astronergy Solar. The annual module capacity of CHINT’s Germany factory is scheduled to be 300MW and the modules produced will not be affected by Europe’s anti-dumping and anti-subsidy measures again. As an important regional factory of Astronergy’s global layout, the Frankfurt factory will mainly produce for European customers to supply high-quality module products. Meanwhile, the factory will also undertake the research, development and testing of some PV products.

After a rapid growth in recent years, Astronergy Solar has expanded its PV module capacity to 1.3GW to be a significant player in the solar industry.
